Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The preliminary task enable us to become accustomed with the equipment giving us experience and preparation for our film.
I feel that since the preliminary task, i have learnt a lot including how to upload music to our film which we decided in the end we didn't want to use and i also learned how to add titles and credits, and how to add different effects. i also learnt how to cut and put shots together.  Since filming the preliminary i feel that our camerawork and our knowledge of the shots and angles improved massively  but doing the preliminary task help me to get used to the equipment. We also learnt how to put the titles into our film which we weren't able to do in our exercise. I feel a lot more confident with premier pro  and using the camera equipment.
I learnt how to do a range of things for example I have learnt how to do a variety of camera angles and shots like pan, extreme close up, long shot, mid shot, close up incorporating this into making my final product. We used Adobe Premiere Elements in order to edit our preliminary task to ensure that everything  looked professional.  Looking back at the preliminary task, we did use a variety of camera shots but they didn't fit nicely together and looked unprofessional as we filmed different shots on different days and weather changes and people had different clothes on. but learning from this we filmed percific scenes on the same days. i used a larger range of camera shot and angles  to emphasise the characters feelings on the particular situations that they were put in. For example, when the femme fatal is waiting for someone down the alley she looks impatient and her body language also shows this show we used and mis shot and a close up to show this it also allowed the audience to identify her as the femme fatal due to her costume and makeup and the atmosphere she creates in the scene.

We took into consideration Mise-En-Scene when we made the film product for example in the preliminary task, we only filmed it on college premises whereas when we made our film noir, we filmed some in the college and some down an alley which created the film noir moody and made it more mysterious. This would also make the viewer keen to keep on watching because it is a change of scenery.
In our preliminary cast we worse just casual smart wear whereas we really considered mis en scene as this made is more professional.

what have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? QUESTION 6

Throughout the process of creating my media product i gained the ability to use many different technologies. The macs played a big part in making our film and Learning to control an Apple Mac computer was difficult at first because it was so different from using a normal computer, this slowed me down at the beginning of the process, but after a couple of weeks of using the technology it gave me many advantages; mostly the use of special apps designed for the mac like premier pro. We used a Mac because of the aesthetics a Mac has which enable editing and the software on it to make it more simple. Macs have bigger screens and are more stylish in the fact that they look very modern which helps their marketing.

when i began my media course at the start of the year we were given a preliminary task in this we got used to the camera we were going to use for our film which was the sony handcar which was trial and error as we played around with the different buttons the battery wasn't that long lasting which was difficult the main problems we had with filming the plenary was the tripod as they kept breaking and wasn't easy to use.  The tripod had legs which has an adjustable height allowing us to get high angle shot and allowed the shouts to not be shaky and it held the camera still.

Overall,by doing this film i have gained the ability to use many different technologies which are helpful in the media industry. To edit our film we used adobe premiere elements when using this i began to gain knowledge.Firstly,  I had to import my footage on to the computer, Cuts, transitions, effectsRenderingI then used social media to gain feedback and to

exhibit my work i shared my film with friends on twitter and Facebook. This allowed me to gain feedback of what my friends ns other people thought about my film so i could make improvement and alterations. We also put it onto youtube and by doing this we had to Export it by turning the clip it into a .mov file which is a quicktime file then this aloud us to upload our film onto you-tube.Research and PlanningBefore filming our product we had to research other products and analyse them. Furthermore we researched target audience and, conventions and representation of the film noir genre. We planned our film itself using a variety of methods:
  • Storyboards
  • Script
  • Production Schedule
  • Filming Schedule
  • Location
  • Pitch
We used blogger throughout the process of creating and evaluating. From using blogger I have learnt how to set up my own foundation portfolio and create blogposts within this portfolio it also aloud me to become organised with my work and to see what i have uploaded and how far i have come.Throughout the process I have created blogs about the planning of our film, research of the genre I am focusing in on (film noir) and the evaluation of our product.

Coursework feedback

Main Task- 39
Use of mise-en-scene in costume of the femme fatale and detective. Some shots using a vanishing point and perspective which allows the title to be overlaid on an arresting establishing shot.  A range of shot types are used whilst the titles identify actors. Continuity is clear with a clearly planned and storyboarded opening few shots. Simple dialogue provides an enigma which is further clarified in a scripted dialogue between two characters.  Camerawork in this sequence is less secure but meaning is made clear through a range of shot types, body language.  More ambition in use of locations, lighting etc would improve the piece but it is proficient in many of the technical skills allowing it to reach lower level 3

Evaluation

the warner brothers opening introduces our audience into the dark theme of film noir and it also shows its a low budget production as when old film noir was produced they used cheap materials and natural light and different techniques to produce shadows etc.
i think our choice of setting here really fits with our genre as the house is no too modern and the path is dirty and crooked, the lampost also is typical used of lighting when doing film noir. The title is in italics which is traditional and elegant.
This shot of match on action  emphasis the actors actions. i think our choice of costume adds to the film noir aspect and even though we use modern technology like the computers the fur coat adds to the typical femme fatal image.
mid shot introduces the audience to the characters and the titles tells the audience who is acting we didn't want these titles to be too large to distract the audience from the facial expressions and other aspects but its larger enough to understand.

This mid shot also introduces us to the character giving us a clearer costume view. the problem with medium shots is that they don't show as much detail as a close up, but they introduce more of the background. This can be distracting.
Ibelieve this wide shot adds a bit o suspense and chills to the film. A typical image of an alley is haunting and used in a lot of film noir or horror movies it also adds mystery as we as the audience have no clue where the femme fatal is going.

here i believe the technology modernises our film making it more unique, we chose to modernise our film because we felt technology is a big part of todays society and if film noir was to make a big industry once again then it would need modernising.

Target Audience

Uses and gratificataion theory
all media texts are used by people to gratify certain needs. my film would be witched by someone for the following reason this theory places the focus on the audience rather than the actual message itself asking "what people do with the media?"

Active audiences are active and interact with media are engadged and involved with hats going on. However passive audiences believe everything and are easy manipulated and weak willed. the passive audience developed in the 1930s and the media affects there thoughts and behaviors and all the audiences reacts the same way.

hypodermic needle theory- this theory implied that mass media had a powerful effect on its audience. they did this by directing an appropriate message designed to trigger a desired response.

Preffered Reading – This is when audiences respond to the product the way media producers want/expect them to.
Negotiated Reading – This is when a member of the audience partly agrees with part of the product .e.g Film, documentary, TV programme.
Oppositional Reading – This is when the audience are in complete disagreement with the product’s message or setting.
Stuart Hall' proposed a new theory of communication and argued that the meaning is never determined by the sender.
